Use the California Instruments' iX Series to Test at 800 Hz

Posted by Grady Keeton on Mar 16, 2016 3:47:49 PM

The California Instruments iX Series AC/DC Power Source / Analyzer delivers AC, DC, and AC+DC, transient waveforms and performs complex power measurements. While the standard frequency range of the iX Series is 16-500 Hz, it can deliver AC power at up to 1,000 Hz. Many applications, including commercial and military avionics testing, require an output frequency of 800 Hz. The avionics test standards that specify tests at this frequency include:

  • Airbus Directive 0100.1.8

  • Airbus AMD24

  • Airbus A350

  • Boeing 787B3-0147

  • RTCA/DO-160D

  • EUROCAE

To run these test with your California Instruments iX Series source, you need one of the following avionics test options installed: -ABD, -AMD, -A350, -AIRB, -B787, -160. If you have one of these avionics test options, you can program you iX Series power sources to generate waveforms with an output frequency of 800 Hz.

Note, however, that you have derate the output voltage rating when the output frequency is greater than 500 Hz. As shown in Figure 1 above, when you program the output frequency to 1,000 Hz, the iX Series will only output 150 V the 300 V range. At 800 Hz, the maximum output voltage is about 183 V.
